This is by far the most attractive match of the second day of the 2014 World Cup, reigning champions Spain face an ambitious and highly talented Netherlands squad. Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque will have to choose between fielding striker Diego Costa, who says he is fully fit now, or sending in a set up with a false nine striker, most likely Cesc Fabregas.
Del Bosque also has the option to field Fernando Torres or Spain’s all-time record goalscorer David Villa, as both have played really well in recent friendlies. At the back Gerard Pique might be replaced by Javi Martinez who will play alongside Sergio Ramos while Cesar Azpilicueta is set to start at right back.
For Netherlands, Jonathan de Guzman will most likely miss the match due to hamstring problems so Jordy Clasie might start alongside Nigel de Jong at the base of midfield. Coach Louis van Gaal has employed a more defensive 5-3-2 formation instead of his usual 4-3-3 since losing midfielder Kevin Strootman to injury against France in March. Ron Vlaar is set to be joined by Stefan de Vrij and Bruno Martins Indi in a three-man central defence, with Daryl Janmaat and Daley Blind acting on the flanks as wing backs.
