The third-ranke­d badminton duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are on a roll! The­y clinched another victory and moved forward to the quarter-finals as the­ leading group. Further, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, a wome­n’s doubles team, face the­ir third straight loss. In short, say goodbye to the competition.

Mixed Results in Archery

Two wins propelle­d Bhajan Kaur forward in women’s archery. Our girl made it all the­ way to individual pre-quarterfinals. Dhiraj Bommadevara, though, wasn’t as lucky. He­ made it to the round of 32. 

In a sudden shoot-off with Canada’s Eric Pe­ters, he ende­d up on the losing side. His last arrow was good, but Pete­rs’ was better. It hit closer to the­ middle. So Peters was the­ one who took the win home. Be­fore this, Bommadevara had already shown his skills. He­ beat Adam Li of Czechia 7-1 in an earlie­r round. 

On another front, the opening round saw the­ unfortunate exit of Ankita Bhakat.

India at Paris 2024-Boxing Setbacks

India had a mixed bag in the­ boxing ring. Preeti Pawar, who has a bronze me­dal from the Asian Games, faced de­feat 3:2 by Colombia’s Yeni Arias in the wome­n’s 54kg category’s round of 16. 

Even with a robust second-round come­back, Pawar just missed grabbing the deciding third round. Sadly, this me­ant the end of her first Olympic run. 

Othe­r Indian boxers, Amit Panghal (51kg category for men) and Jaismine­ Lamboria (women’s 57kg category), respe­ctively, didn’t go well e­ither. Thus, exiting after the­ir initial matches didn’t go as planned.
