The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on August 27 stated that Shakib al Hasan, their superstar player, will keep playing for Bangladesh. This comes even though he’s named in a First Information Report (FIR), tied to a murder case from the recent troubles in Bangladesh.
A lot of people have been saying Shakib should be out of the national team until everything gets sorted out. Ever since the FIR came up, there’s been a lot of back and forth about whether Shakib should be playing or not. Legal experts and folks in the public, believe he should be benched while it all gets sorted out. But, the BCB is holding steady. They say Shakib keeps playing until the court says otherwise.

Legal Notice Demands Immediate Suspension of Shakib al Hasan
Tensions rose around Shakib when Lawyer Shajib Mahmood Alam, for Advocate Md Rafinur Rahman, sent a notice to BCB. The lawyer demanded for Shakib to be removed from any cricket immediately. This notice was sent both by email and post, mentioning ICC rules.
It stated that Shakib playing cricket while being investigated could damage sport’s honesty. The notice also stressed that Shakib needs to come back to Bangladesh to help with the investigation. It asked the BCB to tell the ICC about the case, for openness in this issue.
BCB’s Stance: Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Legal issues aside, the BCB is firm to continue supporting Shakib. BCB’s President Faruque Ahmed told the press,
“Shakib won’t stop playing. We got a legal notice about recalling him, we responded by confirming this.”
Ahmed added that Shakib’s FIR is early-stage. He won’t be stopped unless proven guilty and will keep playing for the national team as per his contract. Ahmed also confirmed Shakib’s role in the forthcoming Pakistan series and the upcoming India tour.
“He is on our team, and we’ll stand by him if he needs legal help,” Ahmed conveyed. This shows the BCB’s steadfast dedication to backing Shakib during these tough times.

Upcoming Cricket Commitments of Shakib al Hasan
Shakib, a cricketer, has a job in England after his Pakistan matches. He’ll play a four-day game for Surrey’s team. They’ve okayed Shakib’s involvement with the County game, taking place from September 9-12. This is key to his red-ball cricket training, which hasn’t been happening lately.
Once he’s done in England, he heads back to Bangladesh’s team. In India, they’ll play two Tests and three T20Is, which starts September 19.
Conclusion
BCB’s choice to let Shakib al Hasan play on, despite serious claims, has caused varied reactions. For the time being, Shakib is still a crucial player for the national team, as the BCB keeps a watchful eye on the legal case.
