Here is what happened on the day four for India at Paris 2024:
Manu Bhaker’s Historic Achievement
The fourth day of the Paris 2024 Olympics was remarkable. Manu Bhaker, at the young age of 22, made history. As the first independent Indian athlete to win several medals at one Olympics!
In the 10m air rifle event, Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh nabbed the bronze. This is the first-ever for India in a shooting team event at the Summer Games.

The Indian men’s hockey team cemented their quarter-final place, beating Ireland 2-0 in the Pool B match. Team skipper Harmanpreet Singh showed the way, making both goals. Subsequently, crowning his count to four at the current Summer Games. India’s win ensures a top-four standing in Pool B, locking in the quarter-final position. The group, bronze medalists at Tokyo 2020, will face the existing champions, on Thursday, August 1.

Badminton Duo Advances

Further, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, a women’s doubles team, face their third straight loss. In short, say goodbye to the competition.
Mixed Results in Archery
Two wins propelled Bhajan Kaur forward in women’s archery. Our girl made it all the way to individual pre-quarterfinals. Dhiraj Bommadevara, though, wasn’t as lucky. He made it to the round of 32.
In a sudden shoot-off with Canada’s Eric Peters, he ended up on the losing side. His last arrow was good, but Peters’ was better. It hit closer to the middle. So Peters was the one who took the win home. Before this, Bommadevara had already shown his skills. He beat Adam Li of Czechia 7-1 in an earlier round.
On another front, the opening round saw the unfortunate exit of Ankita Bhakat.

India at Paris 2024-Boxing Setbacks
India had a mixed bag in the boxing ring. Preeti Pawar, who has a bronze medal from the Asian Games, faced defeat 3:2 by Colombia’s Yeni Arias in the women’s 54kg category’s round of 16.
Even with a robust second-round comeback, Pawar just missed grabbing the deciding third round. Sadly, this meant the end of her first Olympic run.
Other Indian boxers, Amit Panghal (51kg category for men) and Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg category), respectively, didn’t go well either. Thus, exiting after their initial matches didn’t go as planned.
