Interim manager Ryan Giggs has promised that the ‘good times’ will return for the Red Devils after making what could be his final home appearance for the club on Tuesday. Giggs named himself as a substitute for the match against Hull City and replaced youngster Tom Lawrence in the final 20 minutes of the match, which was won 3-1 by Manchester United. After the final whistle Giggs addressed the home fans at the end of a terrible season for the club.
David Moyes was sacked as a result and Giggs was named as interim manager until the end of the season, when the club will decide who will be the next permanent manager. Giggs said to the fans after the match: “We know it has been tough this season and over the years we have been spoiled with the success we have had. Your support this year has never changed, you have always supported the team and the staff. I’m sure in the coming years we will bring you more success. I would just like to say, keep supporting us, you have seen a little glimpse of the future, and this is what this club is about. It never stands still, we always give youth a chance and we try and play attractive football. Sometimes we don’t win, but we give it our all. Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon.”
As for the manager job, Giggs said he doesn’t know anything. Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal is said to be the favourite for the job. “I’ve not been told anything,” he said. “I’ve been left to get on with my job, which I’m quite happy with and I’ll get on with that until Sunday.”
