Southampton captain Adam Lallana has told the club he wants to be allowed to leave when he returns from the World Cup in Brazil. The talented midfielder has not put in an official transfer request yet but has made his feelings known to the club. Liverpool have already made a £25m offer for the 27-year-old skipper. Southampton and England team-mate Rickie Lambert has already moved to Anfield on Monday for a fee of around £4m plus add-ons on a two-year contract.

The Saints had previously stated that no player will be sold until a replacement is appointed for coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has joined Tottenham on 28 May. Lallana scored nine goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season, The midfielder hopes that the club will appoint a new manager this week, which would allow him to move before the start of the 2014 World Cup.

He played 73 minutes of England’s 3-0 friendly win over Peru at Wembley on Friday, earning his fourth international cap. Lallana joined the Southampton academy at the age of 12 and moved up through the ranks until becoming the club captain.
